MEDICAL COMPLETED “this is my dream club, I hope that..” Celtic Complete Groundbreaking signing of former Leeds United, Manchester City and Leicester City man

After departing Anderlecht at the end of last season, the 37-year-old Danish goalkeeper left his future uncertain as he headed to Euro 2024. However, he has now accepted a new challenge by signing with the Scottish Premiership powerhouse.

Inking a one-year contract, he brings much-needed experience to Celtic’s goalkeeping department following Joe Hart’s retirement, who was Schmeichel’s former Manchester City teammate. Schmeichel is set to fly to the USA to join his new teammates on their pre-season tour.

In a statement on Celtic’s official website, Schmeichel expressed his excitement about joining the club, citing Celtic as a renowned football club with a rich history of success. He also praised manager Brendan Rodgers, with whom he has worked before and looks forward to working with again. Schmeichel is eager to meet the fans and contribute to Celtic’s continued success.

Rodgers, who has been managing Celtic since 2023, previously worked with Schmeichel during their time at Leicester City. While Schmeichel is best known for his 11-year tenure at Leicester, he also spent a season at Leeds United in 2010/11. Despite finding it challenging at Elland Road, he acknowledged the club’s greatness and reflected on the difficulties he faced during that time.
