After Leicester City suffered relegation from the Premier League, a number of players decided to leave the King Power Stadium.
Some of the more notable departures included James Maddison moving to Tottenham Hotspur and Harvey Barnes signing with Newcastle United.
Victor Kristiansen also left on a loan deal, joining Serie A side Bologna. Despite Leicester paying a reported £17 million for him in the January transfer window just months earlier, it seems unlikely that he will be returning after expressing his relief at getting a move away from the club. He stated that the way he was being asked to play under Foxes’ boss Enzo Maresca during pre-season made his time at Leicester difficult.
Kristiansen expressed his challenge in adapting to the new environment, noting that he felt alone and under pressure to help save a struggling club. He explained how difficult it was for him to adjust to playing abroad and how it took a toll on him emotionally. He seems content with his current situation at Bologna and hopes for a permanent switch next summer.
It appears that the deal for Kristiansen was not a prudent investment for Leicester, given the player’s comments and desire to stay in Italy. It is unlikely that Bologna will pay the same amount that Leicester did for his signature, which means the Foxes will likely incur a financial loss.
This experience serves as a learning opportunity for the club to make better decisions in the future and move on from deals that do not work out as planned.
