Leicester City had high hopes for Victor Kristiansen when they invested €14m in him, envisioning him as their long-term left-back. However, their relegation to the Championship and the appointment of Enzo Maresca as the new manager changed everything.
Kristiansen was unhappy with Maresca’s plans for him at Leicester, prompting him to seek a transfer. He found a new home at Bologna, who paid €1m to sign him on loan with the option to buy. The player fully expects Bologna to exercise that option, as he made clear in an interview with Corriere dello Sport.
While on international duty with Denmark, Kristiansen was asked if he could see himself returning to Leicester next season. His response was clear: “No, there is no future for me there at the moment.”
This isn’t the first time Kristiansen has expressed dissatisfaction with Leicester. He recently criticized the club as dysfunctional, particularly after Maresca attempted to change his position from full-back to centre-back. Despite this, he admitted that if it weren’t for the positional change, he would have been happy to stay at Leicester, as things had initially been “going great” with the now Championship side.
Ultimately, Kristiansen’s future will depend on whether Bologna triggers his buy option. If they don’t, he’ll be looking for a new club. But if they do, he’ll stay with them for the foreseeable future.
