Nottingham Forest had been rumored to be seeking a new goalkeeper in the days leading up to the transfer deadline last month, but unfortunately, their attempts were unsuccessful.
Currently, Matz Sels occupies the number-one goalkeeper position at the club, with Carlos Miguel serving as his backup. Sels joined Forest in January from Strasbourg, as it was evident that Nuno Espirito Santo did not have faith in Matt Turner or Odysseas Vlachodimos.
Both Turner and Vlachodimos, who were signed last summer, have since left City Ground, with Turner moving to Crystal Palace and Vlachodimos signing with Newcastle.
Despite being linked to several goalkeepers before the transfer deadline, including Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher, Forest made an offer of £20 million plus Turner to Liverpool, which was rejected.
Kelleher, valued at £25 million, did not end up making the move to Forest this summer, as the club ultimately decided not to pursue a new goalkeeper. Although Kelleher received a mixed review for his recent performance with the Republic of Ireland, Forest may revisit the idea of signing him in January.
At 32 years old, Sels is considered a reliable goalkeeper but not a long-term solution for Forest. Kelleher, on the other hand, at 25, may be looking for more regular first-team opportunities. If Kelleher can refine his skills, Forest may consider making another attempt to sign him in the future.
