The 21-year-old, who recently signed with Celtic in a club-record £11million deal from Augsburg, made his debut for the Red Devils in their 3-1 victory over Israel in the Nations League opener. He received high praise from Belgium captain Kevin De Bruyne after the match.
However, Engels was unable to play in their 2-0 loss to France on Monday due to a suspension he received for accumulating yellow cards while playing for the U21 team. The suspension only applies to international matches that occur within 24 hours of the U21 team’s fixtures, which is why he could play against Israel but not France.
