A striker, who was under the impression that he was on his way to Sunderland, has opened up about his struggle to fully recover from the disappointment of the move falling through. During the summer transfer window, Sunderland made it a priority to bring in a new striker and explored several potential targets. Following the departure of Jack Clarke to Ipswich Town, Sunderland managed to secure Wilson Isidor on loan from Zenit St Petersburg.

Amidst their search for reinforcements, Sunderland seemed close to sealing the deal with Caen striker Alexandre Mendy. The player was eager to make the switch to Wearside and was eagerly awaiting the green light. However, a sudden change in ownership at Caen altered the course of events, leading to Mendy remaining in northern France.

Having already packed his bags in anticipation of the move, Mendy found himself dealing with the disappointment of the deal falling through. He confessed to still feeling the lingering effects of missing out on the Sunderland opportunity, citing the impact on his family and the unsettling feeling of uprooting his life.

Despite his disappointment, Mendy remains focused on his performance on the pitch. He noted that he has not yet fully unpacked his belongings from the failed move, symbolizing his desire to move past this setback while acknowledging that the healing process takes time.

As Mendy continues to acclimate himself back into the routine of everyday life in Caen, his focus remains on football. Currently, Caen finds themselves in a challenging position, sitting fourth from the bottom in France’s Ligue 2. Mendy is hopeful that with time and focus on the game, he will be able to overcome the disappointment and fully recover from the missed opportunity at Sunderland.
