At this point last year, Leeds United found themselves trailing the top two teams in the Championship by nine points. Leicester City and Ipswich Town had stormed ahead, amassing only eight points dropped between them in the first nine matches.
Leeds, on the other hand, had a slow start after a tumultuous summer, sitting in ninth place with just 13 points. Now, the picture has changed significantly for Leeds. While they are only three points ahead compared to last year, no team has matched the impressive start of Leicester and Ipswich from the previous season.
The league this year is tight, with only five points separating first place Sunderland from ninth place Middlesbrough. Patrick Bamford acknowledges that this season may be a tougher challenge for Leeds without key players like Crysencio Summerville, Archie Gray, and Georginio Rutter.
Despite some missed opportunities in recent matches, such as draws against Portsmouth and Sunderland, Bamford remains optimistic. He believes Leeds have successfully replaced lost players and brought in quality new additions like Largie Ramazani, Ao Tanaka, and Jayden Bogle.
Looking ahead, Bamford anticipates a competitive promotion race with several teams vying for the top two spots. He reflects on the uncertainty surrounding Leeds at the start of the season but is confident in the squad’s strength and potential to compete at the highest level.
