‘Throw out’ – Chris Sutton slams Nottingham Forest as he weighs in on £750,000 fine

Chris Sutton has weighed in on the hefty FA fine handed down to Nottingham Forest.

The club was fined £750,000 and issued a warning regarding their future conduct after criticizing VAR Stuart Attwell on social media. Despite Forest’s denial that their comments brought the game into disrepute, an independent regulatory commission sided with the Football Association’s charge.

Following a match against Everton where Forest felt they were denied three penalties, the club took to social media to express their frustration. Their post allegedly implied bias and questioned the integrity of match officials, leading to the FA’s disciplinary action.

Sutton shared his thoughts on the situation during the It’s all Kicking Off podcast, emphasizing the importance of setting a precedent. He believes that clubs cannot freely attack officials and officiating without consequences.

The FA had originally sought a fine exceeding £1 million for Forest’s public criticism of Attwell. They argued that the club’s actions undermined the integrity of both the official and the sport itself on a previously unseen level.
