Jack Clarke made the switch from Sunderland to Ipswich Town over the summer, but his start with the new club has been less than stellar. The Black Cats heavily relied on Clarke’s 15 goals last season to secure their place in the Championship, so his departure was anticipated.
Despite interest from Premier League clubs, Clarke ended up signing with Ipswich Town for an initial fee of £13.5 million, with a 25% sell-on fee going back to Spurs. Since joining Portman Road, Clarke has played five games in the Premier League and managed one assist, with Ipswich currently in 17th place and without a win.
In contrast, Sunderland, under Regis Le Bris, are sitting at the top of the Championship table with Romaine Mundle proving to be a new star on the wing. The question arises – will Clarke regret his move to Ipswich Town?
Former Sunderland player Kieron Brady believes otherwise, stating that Clarke likely received a more lucrative contract with Ipswich compared to what Sunderland could offer. If Ipswich were to be relegated back to the Championship at the end of the season, Clarke may reconsider his decision. However, if he has a successful season personally, a Premier League club could come knocking once again.
While Sunderland fans have a soft spot for Clarke, his departure has allowed Mundle to shine and make the team less reliant on one player. It seems like a win-win situation for everyone involved, and only time will tell how Clarke’s move to Ipswich Town will play out in the long run.
