The January transfer window may still be months away, but Celtic are already being linked with a potential move to bring back one of their former players. Reports suggest that Kieran Tierney, the Arsenal left-back, is keen on returning to Parkhead for the second half of the season.
Tierney left Celtic for Arsenal in 2019 for a hefty fee of £25m after a successful spell with the Scottish giants. The Hoops are reportedly interested in bringing him back, with Arsenal willing to let him go on loan to facilitate the move.
Celtic had signed Boli Bolingoli as Tierney’s replacement, but things didn’t quite go as planned. The Belgian full-back was brought in for £3m from Rapid Vienna and had high hopes of emulating Tierney’s success. However, he struggled physically, losing many duels in the Bundesliga.
Bolingoli made 28 appearances in his first season for Celtic but failed to impress, losing his place in the team to Greg Taylor. His Celtic career took a major hit when he breached quarantine rules in 2020, leading to the suspension of two matches for the club. He was subsequently loaned out and eventually sold for a fraction of his initial fee.
In the end, Bolingoli couldn’t match Tierney’s impact at Celtic, both on and off the pitch. His departure was a disappointment for the club, wasting the £3m fee they paid for him and the substantial wages he earned during his time in Scotland.
