The most recent opinion on Leicester City claims that the team is ‘doing a Leicester.’ This has quickly become repetitive and disrespectful. Aston Villa had a chance to take the lead in the Premier League but could only manage a draw against Sheffield United, which may allow Arsenal or Liverpool to increase their lead at the top of the league. The comparisons with Leicester City’s 2015/16 title win are not accurate. The talk of Villa being genuine title contenders began after they defeated Manchester City and Arsenal, which has sparked the ‘doing a Leicester’ mentions. However, Villa and Leicester are at different levels. The money spent on the respective Villa and Leicester squads is significantly different. Leicester’s challenge in 2015/16 and Villa’s current position in the league are not comparable at all. The disrespect towards the big clubs is noticeable, and Danny Simpson has said that the disrespect is crazy. As a City fan, I hope they can be in a similar position in a few seasons time, but comparisons to Leicester’s achievement are unlikely to be made.
