Reports indicate that the Nigerian international and a key player for Leicester City, has captured the attention of Spanish powerhouse Barcelona. According to Mundo Deportivo via Fichajes, Barcelona is eyeing Ndidi as a potential addition to their midfield, with the intention of signing him at zero cost next summer or possibly negotiating a transfer during the upcoming January market.
Aside from Ndidi, Barcelona has drawn up a list of ten midfielders under their radar for potential free transfers, including players such as Tomas Soucek, Pablo Fornals, Jorginho, Thiago, Marten de Roon, Daichi Kamada, Piotr Zielinski, Adrien Rabiot, and Guido Rodríguez.
Barcelona, grappling with well-documented financial constraints, is compelled to explore the free agency market to reinforce their squad, given that their spending must align with their revenue.
Despite currently competing in the Championship, Ndidi is enjoying a stellar season, having flourished under the direction of Enzo Maresca. Maresca’s guidance has seen Ndidi transition from a holding midfielder to a box-to-box midfielder, a change that has significantly impacted his performance, resulting in ten goal involvements in 22 appearances thus far this season.
Since joining Leicester City from Racing Genk in January 2017, the 27-year-old has been an integral and consistent presence in the team. His current contract with the Foxes is slated to run until June 30, 2024.
Additionally, Ndidi is expected to join the Super Eagles squad for their pre-Africa Cup of Nations training camp in early January as he continues to impress on the field.
