Brighton held their nerve in a nail-biting finish as Joao Pedro’s fourth goal of the season led them to a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Bournemouth, extending Fabian Hurzeler’s impressive start in the Premier League.
Pedro opened the scoring just four minutes into the game, with Kaoru Mitoma doubling the Seagulls’ lead early in the second half.
Despite Carlos Baleba’s red card in the 59th minute, Brighton managed to withstand Bournemouth’s late surge, with David Brooks scoring a late goal and Antoine Semenyo hitting the crossbar in added time.
The match took place in difficult conditions due to Storm Bert, with strong winds and heavy rain at the Vitality Stadium. Hurzeler had called for a quick start from his team, and they delivered with a clinical performance.
Bournemouth tried to respond but struggled to find a way past Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen. Despite some close opportunities, they were unable to break through before the final whistle.
The victory saw Brighton climb to fifth place in the Premier League, continuing their strong form under Hurzeler’s leadership.
