Bobby Madden believes Kyogo got away with a close call after a collision with Aberdeen’s Ross Doohan. The stand-in goalkeeper took a hard hit early on after being collided with by the charging Celtic forward. Kyogo’s knee made contact with Doohan’s head as they fought for a loose ball inside the penalty area. Doohan showed courage by playing through the rest of the game and making some impressive saves until Reo Hatate scored a late winner.
Madden thinks Kyogo should have received a yellow card as he felt the challenge was reckless and showed a lack of concern for the opponent. He wrote on Instagram, “Yellow card in my opinion. The goalkeeper had possession, and I believe there was a chance to avoid the collision.”
Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher disagreed, stating that the referee handled the situation correctly by not issuing any cards despite complaints from the Aberdeen fans. He believed both players were going for the ball, and a collision was inevitable.
Although Celtic had a goal disallowed in the first half due to Maeda muscling Doohan, Gallagher supported the decision, saying Maeda backed into the goalkeeper, leaving him with no options.
On the other hand, Gallagher thought Graeme Shinnie was fortunate to escape a second yellow card for a challenge on Arne Engels, as he believed the touch was heavy but not reckless enough to warrant a sending off.
