TRANSFER HIJACK “We won’t let them hijack him from us” Sheffield United face disappointment in the transfer market as a Championship rival Leeds United and Middlesbrough appears to be on the brink of securing the signature of a highly sought-after striker, who has netted 15 goals

Sheffield United’s interest in the 15-goal forward has sparked a race with Derby County emerging as surprise frontrunners. Despite Chris Wilder’s desire to bolster their attacking options, reports suggest that Barry may end up at Pride Park instead.

After impressing at Stockport County with 15 goals in 23 League One appearances, Barry caught the eye of several Championship clubs. While United, Leeds, Sunderland, and Middlesbrough were initially linked with interest, Derby seems to have gained an advantage by offering regular playing time to the young striker.

Although Barry fits the profile of what Wilder wants in attack, the Blades may be turning their focus elsewhere. Reports indicate that former loanee Ben Brereton Diaz is close to returning to Bramall Lane, with a loan deal potentially in place with Southampton.

Brereton Diaz, who scored six goals in 14 Premier League games for United last season, could provide a familiar option for Wilder’s side. The Chile international has struggled to make an impact at Southampton and a move back to Sheffield could reignite his form.

Following potential attacking reinforcements, Sheffield United will shift their focus to midfield, with Leicester City’s Hamza Choudhury and Nottingham Forest’s Andrew Omobamidele among the players linked with a move to Bramall Lane. As injuries have left the Blades light in the middle of the park, securing reinforcements in that area will be a priority for Wilder in the upcoming weeks.
