Additional arrests have been made in connection with the violent clashes that erupted before last year’s Old Firm League Cup final. The chaos, which saw Rangers and Celtic hooligans clash in the streets of Glasgow on December 15, has led to a total of six men being charged.
Following a series of warrants executed across Glasgow and South Lanarkshire, four men aged 23, 26, 27, and 28 were initially arrested last week. The police have now apprehended two more men, aged 22 and 38, bringing the total number of arrests to six.
All six individuals are scheduled to appear in Glasgow Sheriff Court today, with reports being submitted to the Procurator Fiscal. The police investigation is ongoing as they strive to locate additional suspects involved in the rampage.
The disorder, which saw ultra groups causing havoc on Argyle Street prior to the Premier Sports Cup Final at Hampden, left Christmas shoppers in shock as they were targeted with flares and pyrotechnics. Scotland’s First Minister, John Swinney, denounced the violence as “completely and utterly unacceptable”.
