Celtic faced a tough VAR decision during their 2-1 loss to Bayern Munich at home in the Champions League.
With a 2-0 deficit after 49 minutes, Celtic struggled to create chances in the first half.
In the second half, the team started to push for a goal when Arne Engels went down in the box. Initially ruled offside, a closer look by VAR raised the possibility of a penalty for a foul by Dayot Upamecano.
After numerous replays and deliberations by the referee, it was ultimately decided that there was no penalty and play resumed with a free kick for Bayern.
Experts on TNT Sports and stadium scoreboards explained that the contact with Engels’ foot was accidental, not intentional.
Despite a late goal from Daizen Maeda, Celtic will have to put in a strong effort in the second leg in Munich, trailing 2-1.
