The first goal came late in the first half when Daizen Maeda capitalized on a rebound from Nicolas Kuhn’s shot. Adam Idah also ended his goalscoring drought with a goal in the final minutes of the match. As Celtic fans celebrated another trip to Hampden, Gray conceded that his team was outplayed and deserved to be knocked out of the tournament.
In an interview with Premier Sports, Gray admitted, “It’s obviously not a feeling we’re used to for a very long time, and that’s credit to the players. We never accept losing games, but Celtic deserved the win. We struggled to capitalize on our opportunities and lacked quality when it mattered most.”
Reflecting on the game, Gray acknowledged Celtic’s strong start and praised his team for standing up to the pressure. However, he lamented the missed chances and the inability to truly challenge Celtic throughout the match. Despite a late push towards the end, Hibs failed to break through Celtic’s defense effectively.
Looking ahead, Celtic will face either Hearts, Aberdeen, Livingston, or St Johnstone in the semi-finals, with Rodgers’ side being the clear favorites. As Rodgers continues his impressive Scottish Cup record with 20 consecutive wins, the treble dream remains alive for Celtic.
