Leeds United’s fans were bracing for the worst after the 2023/24 Championship campaign, expecting key players to depart for the Premier League. Crysencio Summerville, Archie Gray, and Georginio Rutter were seen as potential big-money departures.
Gray was the first to leave, joining Tottenham Hotspur for £30 million, followed by Rutter’s £40 million move to Brighton and Hove Albion. Summerville then joined West Ham United for over £25 million plus add-ons.
However, while Gray and Rutter have impressed in their new teams, Summerville has struggled in the Premier League. The 23-year-old winger has had inconsistent game time and injuries, starting just seven league games and playing only 45 minutes under new manager Graham Potter.
Despite this, it’s premature to write off Summerville, who showed promise in the Premier League during his time at Leeds. He had a notable spell in late 2022, scoring four goals in four games, including a winner at Anfield.
Summerville’s struggles this season may be due to the wrong manager or lack of game time, and he still has potential to improve. West Ham boss Potter has shown faith in him, and it remains to be seen if Summerville can repay that trust and find consistent minutes next season.
