Leicester manager Enzo Maresca provided an update on the health of Kelechi Iheanacho, whose absence has sparked concerns about his participation in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations. He also addressed the condition of Wilfred Ndidi, who missed their recent victory over Huddersfield Town.

Iheanacho was not included in the squad for the Foxes’ win over Cardiff last week, leading to speculation about his availability for the AFCON. He was also absent from the team’s triumph over Huddersfield, adding to doubts about his fitness.

In his post-match comments, Maresca confirmed that Iheanacho, a former FIFA U17 World Cup winner, was injured but will join the Super Eagles for AFCON preparations. He also stated that Ndidi missed the recent game due to injury but will join Iheanacho in the camp.

Maresca stated, “Kele and Wilf are both injured, but they are now going to be with the international team. We’ll see if they’re going to keep them or send them back. But they are both injured, unfortunately for us.”

Iheanacho participated in four matches in the previous Africa Cup of Nations, while Ndidi has previously played in the 2019 and 2021 tournaments.
