Brighton captain Lewis Dunk expressed his disappointment after the team’s 2-2 draw against Leicester City, thanking fans for sticking with the team despite their struggles. The Seagulls had twice taken the lead through Joao Pedro’s penalties, but Leicester equalized each time, with Stephy Mavididi scoring Brighton’s first top-flight goal in 798 minutes and Caleb Okoli netting his maiden goal in English football.
The draw was a setback for Brighton’s pursuit of European qualification, following successive defeats. Dunk acknowledged that the point gained wasn’t enough and that the team needs to get back to winning ways. He took to Instagram to express his frustration, saying, “Really disappointing day, +1 but that’s not enough, we need to get back to winning ways. Thank you for sticking with us!”
Dunk himself had a mixed game, struggling at times and being at fault for one of Leicester’s goals. However, German head coach Fabian Hurzeler defended his captain, emphasizing Dunk’s importance to the team and his determination to bounce back. Hurzeler stated, “I will never point Lewis out and say he’s the reason why we are not winning the game. That’s a fact, he’s my skipper, he’s a legend for the club, and therefore he will try everything to bounce back, like the whole team.”
The Seagulls dominated parts of the match but failed to capitalize on their chances, paying a heavy price for their inefficiency. Leicester hit a post in the closing stages, and it could have easily been a loss for Brighton. The team will look to regroup and get back on track after a frustrating result.
