‘Our plans is to..’ – Fabian Hurzeler finally breaks silence on Tariq Lamptey contract and injury update

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler will discuss Tariq Lamptey’s future with the player, who is set to become a free agent this summer. Lamptey has been out with a foot injury for seven matches but is available to face West Ham on Saturday.

The 24-year-old right-back has been linked with several clubs, including Ajax, Wolves, Fulham, and Sporting Lisbon. With Lamptey’s contract situation and Brighton triggering an extra-year option for Joel Veltman, it seems likely Lamptey could leave the club.

Hurzeler wouldn’t comment on Lamptey’s future, saying the club prefers to communicate plans internally before making public announcements. Lamptey has made 120 appearances for Brighton, scoring five goals and providing 11 assists since joining from Chelsea in 2020.

Injuries have impacted Lamptey’s progress, and it’s unclear if Hurzeler wants to work with him again next season. The right-back position has been a challenge for Brighton this term, with both Lamptey and Veltman missing significant time due to injuries.
