Napoli reportedly dump other midfielders for Leicester City star: deal in progress

Napoli have decided to pivot away from the idea of signing midfielders from Tottenham or West Ham and are now focused on securing a Leicester City star.

With strengthening their midfield a top priority for the Serie A side in the upcoming transfer window, they have been actively searching across Europe for a top-quality addition to their squad.

While Napoli had been considering options from various clubs, Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and West Ham’s Pablo Fornals were initially their top targets. Hojbjerg, in particular, was believed to be looking to leave North London after struggling to adapt to Ange Postecoglou’s style of play.

Hojbjerg’s lack of game time and Fornals’ upcoming contract expiration in the summer meant that Napoli needed to turn their attention elsewhere. They have now set their sights on Leicester City’s Boubakary Soumare.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Napoli has been in “continuous contacts” with Soumare and is keen on pursuing a loan with an option to buy. The midfielder, currently on loan at Sevilla, has reportedly caught Napoli’s attention due to his lower cost compared to other options.

Despite reports from France suggesting Soumare will remain at Sevilla, Napoli’s interest continues to grow. Talks with the player have not yet begun, but negotiations are expected to intensify in the coming days and weeks.
