Leeds United are on the verge of securing the services of Lyon goalkeeper Lucas Perri.
Manager Daniel Farke is in urgent need of a new first-choice goalkeeper following Illan Meslier’s costly errors almost leading to the Whites missing out on promotion last season. The Frenchman was replaced by Karl Darlow towards the end of the campaign, but it was clear that Meslier was not up to the standard required for the Premier League.
It appears that the LS11 club are finally addressing their goalkeeping issues with the imminent arrival of Perri. The 27-year-old has been photographed at Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport, suggesting that he is en route to join Leeds at their training camp in Germany.
Meslier’s performances in the Championship last season raised concerns about his readiness for top-flight football, prompting the need for a new goalkeeper like Perri, who displayed impressive form with 10 clean sheets and just 44 goals conceded in 33 appearances for Lyon.
Perri could make his debut for Leeds in their upcoming pre-season friendly on Sunday. His arrival is expected to provide stability at the back, complementing the physical presence of players like Jaka Bijol and Anton Stach in the team’s spine.
While the goalkeeping situation seems to be resolved, doubts linger over the striker position, with concerns about Joel Piroe’s ability and rumors linking Leeds to potential targets like Nikola Krstovic and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. It remains to be seen if the club will make further moves in the transfer market before the deadline.
