Atlético Madrid’s Javi Galán was reportedly close to completing a transfer to Nottingham Forest on deadline day but saw his move thwarted when the English club backed out. According to Marca, the 30-year-old left-back had agreed to join Nottingham Forest and all documents related to the transfer had been exchanged, but he ultimately did not make the move to Nuno Espírito Santo’s side.
Galán had multiple options available to him and had chosen Nottingham Forest the week prior. The deal was said to be so far along that one of Galán’s agents was already in England, awaiting his arrival to finalize a three-year contract with the Premier League club.
However, Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis reportedly pulled out of the deal for no apparent reason just minutes before the transfer window closed. As a result, Nottingham Forest ended up signing left-back Cuiabano from Botafogo instead of Galán, leading to speculation that this acquisition may have influenced Marinakis’ decision to block Galán’s move.
As a result, Javi Galán will have to remain at Atlético Madrid, where he may not receive regular playing time due to the competition in the squad.
