Ahead of schedule, Newcastle United’s Amazon documentary was released with an official announcement following a week later. In episode four of ‘We Are Newcastle United’, Newcastle’s chief commercial officer, Peter Silverstone, discussed the potential financial success of the club’s partnership with Adidas. Silverstone claimed that the deal had the potential to be the most lucrative in the club’s history, projecting a £200 million retail business. The current deal with kit manufacturers Castore will end after the 2023-24 campaign. Adidas partnerships with clubs vary in levels, from non-contract agreements to elite multi-million pound sponsorships. Currently, only five clubs in world football have an ‘elite’ level partnership with Adidas, including Manchester United, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, and Juventus. The Adidas ‘sponsorship pyramid’ shows the different levels of partnerships and the kits they produce for each club. Newcastle’s deal with Adidas is expected to bring significant commercial benefits, with bespoke designs, retro kits, and sportswear in the works.
