After Leeds United’s defeat against Tottenham, the Football Association (FA) is considering taking disciplinary action against the club due to incidents involving their fans during the game.
The match saw Leeds taste defeat against Tottenham at Elland Road, with Noah Okafor managing to score and equalize before Mohammed Kudus netted the winning goal for the Lilywhites. Leeds felt aggrieved by the officiating during the match, leading to frustrations at different points throughout the game.
Fan behavior turned sour as projectiles were thrown from the stands by some Leeds supporters towards the players on the field. Pedro Porro was targeted with a vape thrown towards him, leading to him humorously picking it up and pretending to smoke before taking a corner. Kudus also faced a similar situation as a bottle narrowly missed his head while celebrating his goal by sitting on a stool in the second half.
The incidents did not go unnoticed, and the Daily Mail reported on 6 October that the FA has now opened an investigation into these matters. Leeds could potentially face a financial penalty from the governing body as a consequence of the fan actions.
Despite the disappointing result against Tottenham, Leeds put in a strong performance and had their fair share of chances. They were unlucky not to secure points against Thomas Frank’s side, and on another day, they could have clinched at least a draw.
The focus, however, has now shifted to the fan actions that marred what could have been another positive home result for Leeds. The behavior of a few individuals in the crowd has cast a shadow over the team, putting the safety of players at risk and tarnishing the atmosphere surrounding the club.
