Enzo Maresca has given his assessment of Sunderland and head coach Regis Le Bris as they prepare to face off against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.
After earning promotion through the playoffs last season, Sunderland’s strong start to the current campaign has surprised many. Currently sitting in seventh place in the Premier League with 14 points, they are nipping at the heels of fifth-placed Chelsea.
Maresca acknowledged the challenge ahead, recognizing Sunderland’s cohesion and teamwork. “They have proven to be a very good team since the start of the season,” the Italian stated at the press conference on Friday. “Their results speak for themselves, and we expect a tough match.”
Having closely followed Sunderland’s journey to promotion, Maresca praised their style of play and physical strength. Despite Chelsea’s current winning streak, Sunderland’s recent form, with two victories in their last three matches, cannot be overlooked.
With Chelsea coming off a short turnaround after a Champions League fixture, Maresca made tactical adjustments in midweek to keep his squad fresh. Sunderland might have the advantage in terms of rest and could present a formidable challenge to the favored Chelsea side.
