“I REGRET MOVING HERE” : Derby County want £25k-p/w Ipswich Town man – Birmingham, Blackburn and Norwich must make moves ASAP

Sammie Szmodics is facing a potential transfer from Ipswich Town this January, as the attacking midfielder has hit a rough patch at Portman Road this campaign. While Derby County has expressed interest in his signature, three other Championship sides are also considering making a move for him.

Ipswich Town has been gradually finding its footing in the Championship after a sluggish start to the season. However, Szmodics, at 30 years old, has struggled to make an impact, partly due to recurring ankle injuries, a knee ailment, and illness that have plagued him, limiting his playing time and goal contributions in his 13 appearances so far.

The attacking midfielder previously shone as Blackburn Rovers’ top goalscorer in the 2023-24 season, netting an impressive 27 goals. Despite this previous success, Szmodics has found it challenging to replicate this form at Ipswich this season, prompting speculation about a potential exit.

Derby County under the guidance of former Blackburn boss John Eustace have been linked with interest in the Republic of Ireland international. Still, other clubs in the league are also monitoring the situation closely and could join the race to secure Szmodics’ services in the upcoming transfer window.

Beyond Derby County, Birmingham City stands as a viable destination, especially as they missed out on securing Chuba Akpom’s services in the summer. With Japanese forward Kyogo Furuhashi potentially departing and limited attacking options, Birmingham could benefit from adding a proven Championship player like Szmodics to their squad.

Meanwhile, a return to Blackburn Rovers could also be on the cards for Szmodics. The club, where he enjoyed significant success in the past, may welcome him back on loan, providing a familiar environment and the chance for the player to rediscover his form while alleviating the pressure on Ipswich Town.

Even Norwich City, Ipswich’s rivals, could explore the possibility of bringing Szmodics to their squad. Despite the historic rivalry and the recent tension surrounding Marcelino Nunez’s transfer, Norwich City is in need of attacking reinforcements due to several key players being sidelined, making Szmodics a potential target for the Canaries.

As the transfer window looms, Szmodics finds himself at a crucial juncture in his career, with various clubs in the Championship eyeing him as a potential solution to their attacking needs. His next move could be pivotal in reigniting his form and impact on the pitch as he aims to make a positive contribution to his new club.
