Tottenham Hotspur have agreed to let Ivan Perisic return to Croatia to play for Hajduk Split, and the move is generating major buzz.
Tottenham made a move to acquire Hajduk Split prodigy Luka Vuskovic in September, securing a deal for the young defender to join the team after he turns 18 in 2025.
This led to speculation in Croatia that Ivan Perisic, a wide man for Spurs, would be moving to Hajduk in return.
Perisic, who is originally from Split, grew up supporting Hajduk and spent six years in their youth program.
Despite the fact that the 34-year-old suffered a major injury in September, he has now completed a move back to Hajduk on a loan until the end of the season. After his contract with Spurs expires, he will sign a permanent one-year deal with Hajduk.
Perisic joins a Hajduk team currently sitting at the top of Croatia’s top league. They hold a six-point lead over Rijeka and a seven-point lead over Dinamo Zagreb.
Perisic is expected to help Hajduk win their first league title since 2005, setting the stage for an emotional celebration in Split.
Former Hajduk star Hrvoje Vejić, who is a retired Croatian international, commented on the move, saying that Perisic joining Hajduk is a significant development for Croatian football and especially for Hajduk.
Despite his injury and advancing age, Perisic’s arrival is generating excitement and euphoria in Split. Vejić believes that Perisic is the biggest name that Hajduk could have possibly signed at this time.
After Perisic’s time at Tottenham didn’t go as planned due to a difficult season, Spurs fans are likely to support him from a distance as he pursues a league title with Hajduk, bringing joy to supporters of the team.
