The tension in the first-round clash between the Phoenix Suns and the Oklahoma City Thunder has officially moved from the hardwood to the league offices. The NBA announced today that Suns’ superstar Devin Booker has been fined $35,000 for his public outburst against officiating following Phoenix’s 120-107 Game 2 loss at Paycom Center.
While the league acknowledged one officiating error by rescinding a technical foul assessed to Booker in the third quarter, they remained firm that his post-game comments crossed the line.

Booker’s frustration stems from what he perceives as a lack of consistency and respect from the referees. Following the loss, which saw the Suns fall behind 2-0 in the series, Booker was vocal about the officiating “mocking” players rather than managing the game.

The “Rescinded” Irony
In a move that added fuel to the fire, the NBA Communications office admitted that the technical foul Booker received with 2:05 left in the third quarter was improperly assessed and has been officially rescinded. Technicals for Dillon Brooks and OKC’s Lu Dort were also wiped from the record.
Despite admitting the refs got the technical wrong, the league stated that their investigation found “no basis for any claim of bias or misconduct” regarding the overall officiating of Game 2.
Fuel for the Fire?
The $35,000 fine comes at a time when Booker is struggling to find his rhythm in the 2026 postseason. Through two games, the 3-time All-Star is averaging 22.5 points but is shooting a frigid 25% from beyond the arc.
