Sunderland head coach Régis Le Bris has delivered an encouraging update on his squad’s injury situation, with several attacking players edging closer to returns ahead of this weekend’s Premier League trip to Wolves.
The most significant boost comes with Jocelin Ta Bi, who is in contention to feature in the matchday squad at Molineux. The winger, who suffered an ankle injury on his league debut against Fulham earlier in the year, was initially expected to miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery. However, his recovery has progressed faster than anticipated, and he has now rejoined full training with the first team.
Le Bris admitted a final decision will be made late in the week but expressed optimism about the youngster’s availability.
There was further positive news regarding wingers Bertrand Traoré and Nilson Angulo, both of whom have also stepped up their rehabilitation work at the Academy of Light. While this weekend’s fixture may come slightly too soon for the pair, Sunderland are hopeful they could be involved when Manchester United visit the Stadium of Light the following week.
Speaking on the trio’s recovery, Le Bris explained that the squad had been stretched in wide areas due to multiple injuries occurring at once, but that the situation is now improving.
He added that all three players possess important attacking qualities, particularly in one-on-one situations and in creating chances in advanced areas. However, he cautioned that after extended spells out, it may take time for them to return to full sharpness and consistency.
Le Bris noted that while their return would significantly strengthen Sunderland’s attacking options, expectations must be managed as they gradually reintegrate into competitive action.
