“If Villa finish fifth and win the Europa League, which is likely, Chelsea can still play Champions League football because they are only two points behind Brighton in sixth place.
“Morgan Gibbs-White has been in stunning form. I don’t think he gets a call-up to the England squad for the World Cup though. The audition window has run out now. I don’t think Forest will be relegated, but I think they will lose this game.”
Merson ultimately backed Chelsea to come out on top in a narrow win, predicting a 2-1 scoreline at Stamford Bridge.
The match also comes amid continued speculation around Chelsea’s transfer plans, with reports linking the club to Brentford striker Igor Thiago, who has impressed with 21 league goals this season. However, any move is expected to come at a significant price, with Brentford reportedly valuing him at around £80m.
