That’s not to say Barry doubts O’Neil’s credentials entirely — the new boss has already proven he can keep clubs in the top flight, having done so successfully with both Bournemouth and Wolves. But turning that experience into results at Portman Road, Barry warns, is going to require serious backing in the transfer window.
The Case for Major Signings
Ipswich have already made a statement of intent, breaking their club-record transfer fee to sign Brazilian striker Emersonn in a £24 million deal last week. But according to Barry, one marquee signing won’t be enough on its own.
He believes Town have the tools to be a nuisance at Portman Road, predicting they could cause real problems at home next season. His concern lies elsewhere — without a squad significantly strengthened through further high-quality additions, he fears Ipswich could find themselves heading straight back down to the Championship.
