Enzo Maresca is within reach of breaking the record for Championship points as he works to guide The Foxes back to the Premier League in their first attempt.
Relegation can be a financial hit for clubs with decreasing parachute payments, but Leicester seem to be avoiding this issue. The Srivaddhanaprabha family’s management of the club has put them in a good financial position compared to other Championship clubs.
Following the tragic passing of Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, his son Aiyawatt has assumed control of King Power. As CEO, he shares the company’s wealth with his family, making them the eighth wealthiest in Thailand with a fortune of £2.7billion, according to Forbes.
Leicester has benefited from this wealth, with Srivaddhanaprabha converting loans into equity, but other clubs in the Championship also have wealthy owners. Stoke City’s Coates family, for example, is worth a staggering £8.75billion according to The Sunday Times Rich List.
Leeds United’s 49ers Enterprises and Ipswich Town’s Gamechanger 20 Ltd are also well backed, with reported net worths of £4.5billion and over £10billion respectively.
With billionaire owners becoming more common in the Championship, the competition is becoming a big-money business. The financial incentives of reaching the Premier League are pulling in wealthy investors, and Leicester is in a strong position to make the leap back into the top tier.
