Nottingham Forest are stepping up their preparations for the new Premier League campaign, and the City Ground hierarchy has set its sights on strengthening Oliver Glasner’s attacking options. According to reports from the Daily Mail, Everton striker Beto has emerged as a serious transfer target for the Reds as they weigh up a potential summer swoop.
While the summer window has experienced a relatively quiet start on Trentside—with midfielder Xaver Schlager currently standing as the club’s sole major addition—technical and recruitment teams are working relentlessly behind the scenes to provide Glasner with the firepower needed to compete on all fronts.
Targeting Proven Premier League Experience
Beto joined Everton in the summer of 2023 from Italian club Udinese in a deal worth approximately €30 million (£25.6m). Since touching down on Merseyside, the Guinea-Bissau international has accumulated 111 appearances and netted 25 goals across all competitions, showcasing his physical presence, aerial dominance, and willingness to run the channels.
Now, at 28 years of age, Beto has caught the eye of Nottingham Forest’s recruitment department. With the club expected to finalize moves for Sporting Lisbon centre-back Ousmane Diomande and pursue Feyenoord full-back Givairo Read, adding another dynamic dimension to the frontline has become a key objective.
Balancing the Forest Frontline
Forest already possess a varied attacking armoury under Glasner. Last term, Igor Jesus spearheaded the attack while veteran marksman Chris Wood battled back from a significant knee injury. Jesus notched 16 goals in all competitions—including an impressive seven strikes in the Europa League—though he occasionally dropped into a deeper No. 10 role once Wood returned to action.
In addition to Jesus and Wood, Glasner can call upon Taiwo Awoniyi and Arnaud Kalimuendo, though the latter continues to attract strong permanent interest from Eintracht Frankfurt following a successful loan spell in Germany during the second half of last season. Adding a robust competitor like Beto would provide immense squad depth and tactical flexibility for a grueling domestic and European schedule.
Oliver Glasner Plays Cards Close to His Chest
Speaking about potential transfer business following his side’s convincing 3-0 pre-season friendly victory over Blackburn Rovers, manager Oliver Glasner remained typically tight-lipped regarding specific targets:
“I don’t want to talk about what we are discussing internally. I already think the prices are a little bit crazy sometimes, and it makes it even more expensive if you talk about names or positions,” Glasner stated.
“We have a great scouting department and we talk about profiles that could help and that we probably don’t have in the formation. If it’s possible to add it, if we find it and it makes sense to do it then we will try to finalise it. We are all very ambitious. We will see.”
