Nottingham Forest are moving closer to bolstering Oliver Glasner’s defensive options, with the Reds closing in on a deal for Feyenoord right-back Givairo Read.
The 20-year-old Netherlands U21 international has emerged as one of the most exciting young full-backs in Europe, capturing the attention of several elite clubs. However, Forest are currently leading the charge and are the only side pushing forward with concrete proposals.
Personal Terms Agreed on a Five-Year Contract
According to reports from the Dutch press, Read has already given the green light to a switch and verbally agreed to a lucrative five-year contract at the City Ground that will see him quadruple his current salary.
With the player completely sold on the project under Glasner, attention has shifted entirely toward finding a breakthrough in negotiations between the two clubs. While Feyenoord initially hoped to retain the defender for at least another season—offering him an extension—the player’s strong desire to test himself in the Premier League has put the Eredivisie outfit in a delicate position.
Navigating the Valuation Standoff
Negotiations have hinged heavily on structuring the financial package. Feyenoord have already turned down initial approaches, including bids worth €17.5m and €20m, alongside subsequent improved proposals. While Forest’s latest offers sit around the €20m to €23m mark (including add-ons), the Dutch club are holding firm near their €25m valuation.
Despite the gap in valuation, optimism remains high on both sides that a compromise can be reached. Sources close to the negotiations indicate that a total agreement is increasingly likely as the clubs iron out the final details of add-ons and structure.
