A surprising claim has been made by a journalist that a West Ham outcast could play a crucial role in the rest of their season.
At the start of the January transfer window, West Ham had the opportunity to secure a fourth consecutive season of European football by offloading some underperforming players and bringing in some replacements. However, the club failed to make any significant additions to their squad, and only managed to sign Kalvin Phillips on loan while offloading players like Pablo Fornals, Said Benrahma, and Thilo Kehrer without finding suitable replacements.
Surprisingly, journalist Paul Brown believes that the solution to David Moyes’ problems may already be within the club, with Maxwel Cornet being poised to make an impact in East London due to the thin squad and the need for rotation in the forward areas.
“He is going to get chances now because their squad is quite thin,” Brown explained. “There will have to be some rotation in forward areas and, if he can find some form, he has got every chance of forcing his way in there on a more regular basis.”
Cornet has faced difficulties since joining from Burnley in the Summer of 2022, including a serious injury that kept him sidelined for months. However, he scored his first goal for West Ham a few weeks ago against Sheffield United, and getting the best out of him could be like making a new signing for the club.
Overall, Brown believes that Cornet needs more minutes before the end of the season in order to realize his full potential and make the impact that was expected of him when he was signed.
