Now, Wembanyama believes he could be the player to finally rewrite history.
During a recent interview with French content creator Rookicks, the 22-year-old Spurs superstar was asked whether he believed scoring more than 100 points in a single NBA game was realistic.
Without hesitation, Wembanyama answered that he agreed.
It was a brief response, but one that immediately sent NBA fans into discussion across social media. Confidence has always been one of the defining traits of the French phenomenon, and this latest declaration shows just how high he believes his ceiling truly is.
Of course, accomplishing such a feat remains one of the most difficult achievements imaginable.
Last season, Wembanyama averaged an outstanding 25 points per game while leading the Spurs to another deep playoff run. Despite already establishing himself as one of the league’s elite players, his personal career-high remains 50 points—exactly half of the record he now believes he can surpass.
Still, basketball has entered a new offensive era where explosive scoring nights have become increasingly common. Breaking Wilt Chamberlain’s record would require a perfect storm—an extraordinary shooting night, heavy minutes, favorable game circumstances and teammates willing to feed the hot hand throughout four quarters. It’s an achievement many believed would never even be threatened.
Yet history has repeatedly shown that records exist to be challenged.
Whether Wembanyama eventually reaches 100 points remains uncertain, but his willingness to publicly embrace such an enormous goal perfectly reflects the fearless mentality that has made him one of basketball’s brightest superstars.
