INJURY BLOW: Daniel Farke Confirms Three Stars Ruled Out as Leeds United Gear Up for Quickfire Forest Rematch!

Leeds United are riding high following a statement opening-weekend victory in the Premier League, but manager Daniel Farke has been handed an immediate squad headache ahead of a swift rematch against Nottingham Forest.

Having edged out Oliver Glasner’s side away from home thanks to Anton Stach’s stunning late free-kick, the Whites are forced right back into the fire. The two rivals are set to lock horns once again in midweek, traveling back to the City Ground for a high-stakes League Cup showdown on Tuesday night.

However, as Farke addressed the media in his pre-match press conference on Monday, he confirmed that his squad will be stretched thin, with three first-team players officially ruled out of the cup clash.

Farke Delivers Team News: Who is Missing?

While the German boss expressed relief that Saturday’s brutal encounter didn’t yield any fresh physical setbacks, he confirmed that Ilia Gruev, Wilfried Gnonto, and Gabriel Gudmundsson will all play no part in Tuesday’s fixture.

Providing an update on the current recovery timelines, Farke offered mixed news regarding defensive midfielder Ilia Gruev, who has been sidelined with ongoing fitness concerns.

“Ilia was partly integrated in the last week,” Farke told reporters. “He was then fully back in team training, which is definitely, definitely good news. [However,] this game comes a bit too soon for him.”

While Gruev is trending in the right direction and closing in on a full return to competitive action, Tuesday night’s cup tie arrives just a few days too early for the Bulgarian international to be risked.

Meanwhile, the situation is slightly different for forward Wilfried Gnonto and left-back Gabriel Gudmundsson. Neither player has returned to full training yet, leaving the Leeds medical staff working around the clock to accelerate their rehabilitations.

“Gabi and Willy are not in training,” Farke added. “We don’t expect them to be out for too long, not training yet.”

Managing Fatigue Ahead of City Ground Return

Aside from the trio of confirmed absentees, Farke noted that the rest of the group that traveled for Saturday’s league fixture is expected to be available. However, with less than 72 hours separating the two matches, physical recovery and squad rotation will dictate the manager’s tactical approach.

“So for that, I expect more or less to have the same players available like it was also for the last game,” Farke explained. “If someone is struggling a bit with recovering quick enough in order to start perhaps the game again or for many minutes, we will see, but so far it seems like no new injuries.”

With the quick turnaround and mounting fixtures, Farke may be forced to tinker with his starting lineup to keep legs fresh, especially as Leeds look to juggle early-season domestic cup ambitions alongside their Premier League campaign.

As the transfer window enters its frantic final week—with ongoing links surrounding potential incomings like Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk dominating the headlines—all eyes will be on how Farke’s depleted side handles a hungry Nottingham Forest looking for immediate revenge!
