Leicester City are gearing up to face Sheffield Wednesday in their upcoming Championship match, and there’s a possibility that Jannik Vestergaard could make his return to the starting line-up after missing the last game due to injury.
The Danish defender has been a key player for City this season, but was sidelined for their recent win against Watford. In his absence, teenager Ben Nelson stepped up and made his first league start for the club.
However, manager Enzo Maresca has provided an optimistic update on Vestergaard’s status, stating that he and winger Marc Albrighton will be evaluated to determine if they can take on Sheffield Wednesday. Maresca expressed confidence in Vestergaard’s potential return, while Albrighton’s availability remains uncertain.
If Vestergaard does play, it will be his final opportunity to avoid a two-game suspension due to accumulating too many yellow cards. Despite receiving nine cautions in his first 17 appearances, he has managed to go 12 league matches without being booked since late November.
With the potential return of Vestergaard and Albrighton, City would only have two players unavailable for the upcoming match. Wilfred Ndidi is still recovering from injury and could be out until early April, while Kelechi Iheanacho won’t be available after representing Nigeria in the Africa Cup of Nations final.
After his team’s loss in the final, Iheanacho will return to City and could be back in contention for this weekend’s match against Middlesbrough.
