However, a review of the local authority’s official calendar reveals that no planning committee meeting is currently scheduled for that specific Wednesday.
While the council has declined to explicitly address the September 16 date, a spokesperson confirmed that a dedicated, separate planning committee meeting to debate and vote on the club’s proposal will be announced “as soon as possible.”
Although a standard monthly planning committee meeting is set to take place on Thursday, September 10, the City Ground application is conspicuously absent from the agenda, with only a minor residential property adjustment slated for review. As the verdict draws near, the project has garnered a rare wave of unified, cross-party political backing from regional leaders. Last week, Nottingham Members of Parliament Nadia Whittome, Lilian Greenwood, and Alex Norris released a joint statement throwing their full weight behind the expansion.
They were joined this week by Newark MP Robert Jenrick, who took to social media to voice his personal endorsement, citing the overwhelming backing from more than 1,200 Forest supporters who have formally written to Rushcliffe Borough Council.
“One of the more classic English football stadiums, it simply is not big enough; it’s persistently sold out and I know genuine fans struggle to get a ticket,” Jenrick wrote on Facebook. “Adding over 15,000 extra seats is ambitious but needed.
