Leeds United may have to shell out between £15-20m to permanently secure the services of Joe Rodon from Tottenham, as stated by Alasdair Gold.
The Whites acquired the Wales international on loan last summer with no purchase option, and he has become a crucial member of the squad under Daniel Farke.
Farke has expressed interest in making the loan move permanent this summer, but Gold, speaking on the Gold & Guest Talk podcast, believes Tottenham will seek around £20m to make a profit on the deal.
“I think Joe Rodon is going to be quite costly,” said Gold. “This is exactly what Spurs want from these loan deals. Especially with Leeds having no option, Rodon could cost them upwards of £15m. Maybe even if he performs incredibly and gets them promoted, it could be around £20m. Spurs could end up in the green on this.”
Leeds United faces a tough decision
The upcoming summer transfer window will be crucial for Leeds United, with major decisions to make about the squad’s future, whether or not they secure promotion.
If promotion is achieved, Farke will need to assess the squad and identify areas for reinforcement to prevent an immediate return to the Championship, as with his previous Norwich sides.
But if promotion isn’t achieved, retaining the squad, including players like Rodon, Crysencio Summerville, Wilfried Gnonto, and Ethan Ampadu, might prove difficult, as they are likely to attract interest from Premier League clubs.
If Rodon wants to stay, the club must weigh the option of investing up to £20m in a player while in the second tier and whether a central defender justifies that investment.
While the main focus is on securing Premier League football, behind-the-scenes decision-makers must also be prepared to act swiftly if necessary.
