Everton manager Sean Dyche has finally broken his silence on the club’s successful appeal to get four of their 10 deducted points back. The deduction, the largest in English top-flight history, was handed down in November due to a single breach of the profit and sustainability rule. However, following the appeal, the deduction was reduced to six points.
During a press conference before their upcoming game against West Ham United, Dyche expressed his satisfaction with the decision, saying, “I think we’re pleased that we’ve got something back obviously. You’re always greedy aren’t you and want more.”
Despite the ongoing legal issues facing the club, Dyche and the team are focused on earning points on the pitch. He stated, “The main focus was on this appeal and what came from it. We’ve certainly parked that now because it’s become a fact now. The line has been drawn under that and the players are clear on it so we take on the rest of the season now with an open mind.”
Dyche emphasized the importance of gaining clarity and expressed relief that the situation has been resolved. He added, “I think everything that helps to give a lift of any kind is good news… I think getting four back gives some form of adjustment to the table that is now apparent and it was needed because I think everyone felt 10 in the first place was harsh.” He concluded by saying, “We obviously wanted points back but the main thing was to bring clarity – for us, the start point obviously – but for everyone.”
