Leeds United’s midfielder, had been performing extremely well since the beginning of 2024. However, during the away match at Huddersfield Town, Glen Kamara struggled to keep up with the game’s pace.
Huddersfield Town brought an end to Leeds’ winning streak in the Championship, causing Leeds to drop out of the top two positions as Ipswich Town secured a victory over Plymouth Argyle.
Leeds’ performance was lacking as they failed to take advantage of their extra player in the second half. Despite equalizing the score, they did not put enough pressure on Lee Nicholls to force him into action.
Huddersfield, under new manager Andre Breitenreiter, managed to turn the game into a scrappy contest where Leeds’ superior quality couldn’t shine through.
The battle in the midfield dominated the first 60 minutes of the game. Jonathan Hogg’s red card seemed to make it easier for Leeds to stage a comeback, but it was not enough to secure their 10th consecutive win.
Leeds’ midfield duo of Ilia Gruev and Glen Kamara did not perform as well as they have in the past. They struggled to move the ball to the talented front four and appeared to lack creativity from the start.
Kamara’s performance was particularly surprising given his recent good form and the style he usually brings to Leeds’ setup.
Phil Hay from The Athletic commented on The Square Ball podcast regarding Kamara’s poor performance:
“Defensively, Leeds were pretty good. Rodon and Ampadu were solid in the backline. Outside of those two, it’s hard to say anyone played particularly well…
“There was definitely an issue with Kamara. He’s been great this season, but he seemed a little slower in his decision-making, which is not typical for him.
“When he was replaced, I expected it from the way he played.”
After the draw against Huddersfield, it’s likely that the squad will be rotated. The midfield, in particular, may see some changes.
Kamara’s lackluster performance against Huddersfield suggests that he may benefit from a rest before the trip to Sheffield Wednesday on Friday.
With depth in midfield, moving Archie Gray into the middle and starting Connor Roberts might be the best move against Stoke tomorrow.
