‘Spot on’… Daniel Farke says Leeds United duo were so important in win over Stoke City last night

Dan James’ deflected first-half goal was the deciding factor in Leeds United’s hard-fought 1-0 victory over Stoke City last night, with the Whites showing resilience against the 22nd placed side in a typical midweek clash at Elland Road.

However, it was Leeds’ solid defensive display that Farke highlighted as key to their recent success, as they kept their eighth clean sheet in the last 11 matches. The backline, led by Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu, has been instrumental in their recent run of form, with not conceding a goal from open play in that time.

Farke praised the centre-back duo, as well as backup options Liam Cooper and Charlie Cresswell, for their consistency and strength in duels. Rodon and Ampadu have formed a strong partnership at the back, with the Wales internationals proving to be reliable and effective in dealing with Stoke’s attacks.

Despite Ampadu filling in admirably for the injured Struijk, Farke acknowledged that Struijk’s return will see him reclaim his spot in central defense. Nonetheless, Ampadu’s contributions in defense and versatility in midfield have not gone unnoticed, showcasing the depth and quality in Leeds’ defensive options.
