Arsenal ‘open talks’ over deal for former Leeds United and Everton transfer target

Reports have emerged indicating that Arsenal have initiated discussions with Sporting Lisbon regarding Viktor Gyokeres, a forward who was previously linked to a move to Leeds United. The 25-year-old gained attention last season for his impressive goal-scoring performances at Coventry City, sparking interest from a number of clubs including Leeds, Everton, and West Ham United.

While Leeds missed out on signing Gyokeres, they were able to secure the services of Joel Piroe from Swansea City. Both players were highly sought after, with Gyokeres ultimately opting to join Sporting in a deal that reportedly exceeded £20 million.

Since his move to Portugal, Gyokeres has excelled, netting an impressive total of 36 goals in just 39 appearances. Arsenal’s sporting director Edu has reportedly entered into discussions with Sporting in hopes of negotiating a potential return to English football for the talented forward in the upcoming transfer window.

Despite Gyokeres slipping through their grasp, Leeds have not struggled in the attack. Piroe has proven to be a valuable addition, contributing goals despite some uncertainty surrounding his best position. Additionally, players such as Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter have provided dangerous attacking options for the Whites, further bolstering their offensive capabilities.
