SAD DEPARTURE: Everton on the brink of losing £60 million superstar as Arsenal intensify pursuit to seal deal with star man

Arsenal have received some encouraging news heading into the upcoming summer transfer window as reports suggest that Everton’s talented midfielder, Amadou Onana, is likely to depart from the club.

Football Insider indicates that Everton will be seeking a fee of between £50m-£60m for the 22-year-old, who joined the Toffees in 2022 from Ligue 1 side Lille in a £33m deal. Onana has impressed since his arrival and has caught the attention of several Premier League clubs including Arsenal.

In addition to Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle, Manchester United, and Barcelona have also shown interest in the Belgian star, as reported by The Standard.

While Arsenal are looking to strengthen their midfield, their priority remains securing a new number nine. The reported price tag of £50m for Onana seems reasonable and would be beneficial for Everton as they seek to address their financial challenges.

Everton is facing significant financial pressure after reporting losses of £89.1million for the 2022-23 season, with a deadline of June 30 for submitting their 2023-24 financial figures. The club has already incurred a six-point deduction for breaching the Premier League’s financial rules, with another charge pending.

The concerning financial situation at Everton could create an opportunity for Arsenal to pursue a move for Onana before the start of the 2024/25 season.
