Martinez’s exorbitant signing is draining Everton’s bank account, making 2x more than Garner!

In recent years, Everton has found success in the transfer market by focusing on younger talents rather than aging superstars past their prime. Players like James Garner and Jarrad Branthwaite have been signed, with Branthwaite even being linked to a £75m move to Manchester United this summer.

Despite their desire to keep hold of Branthwaite, the club may need to consider selling him due to financial constraints. Not all signings have been as successful, evidenced by Jean-Philippe Gbamin, who made minimal impact after a £25m move in 2019.

Another player with potential who has struggled to find consistent playing time is Mason Holgate. Signed in 2015 for £2m, Holgate showed promise but has since fallen out of favor. Despite a resurgence during loan spells, his lack of game time coupled with a hefty £70k-per-week wage has raised concerns over his future at the club.

With one year left on his contract, Everton may need to cash in on Holgate to avoid losing him for nothing. While he was once seen as a solid addition, it is clear that his time at the top level may be coming to an end, making a departure a likely outcome for the 27-year-old defender.
