Gary Lineker believes that Leeds United and Ipswich Town have missed opportunities to surpass his cherished Leicester City in the battle for automatic promotion. Both teams were unable to secure victories on Saturday, following Leicester’s narrow defeat at Plymouth Argyle.
This marked the second time in a short period that United and Ipswich couldn’t capitalize on a stumble by Leicester. They were both held to draws against Sunderland and Watford respectively, after Leicester lost to Millwall.
Currently, Ipswich sits at the top of the table, but Leicester could reclaim the top spot if they win their game in hand against Southampton. United trails by two points after only one win in their last five games post international break.
In a recent episode of the Rest is Football podcast, Lineker expressed frustration, stating, “No one seems to want to secure promotion. No one wants to win games or even score goals.”
Lineker criticized Leicester’s performance at Home Park, where they were defeated and booed by fans. He urged his team to step up, take control, and secure their promotion to the Premier League by winning their remaining home games.
In his impassioned plea, Lineker urged Leicester to stop being nervous, have fun, entertain the crowd, and ultimately win the title. He implored the team to make it happen, rather than just hoping for it to happen.
